Aria for toy piano and piano
This piece was written for Thomas Kotcheff in celebration of HOCKET's first recital in November 2014. I envision this piece as a conversation between two pianos. In the beginning, the toy piano has a vocal quality, singing a recit that is forcefully accompanied by the grand piano. As the piece progresses, the grand piano begins to rival the importance of the toy piano's melodic statements. In the final section, the grand piano has acquiesced and allowed the toy piano to take the lead, though they now both are speaking in a similar language and not as at odds as in the beginning of the aria.
